The team includes classicists from University of Giessen in Germany (where the colleague who nominated Revermann for the Humboldt prize is located), and Suola Normale Superiore in Italy.</p> <p>The project&nbsp;includes workshops in Germany, Italy and on the Â鶹ֱ˛Ąapp Mississauga campus. Rao’s project includes scholars from across Â鶹ֱ˛Ąapp’s three campuses and establishes partnerships with researchers of the premodern world in Egypt, India and Singapore.</p> <p>The Connaught Global Challenge is supported by the Connaught Fund – the largest internal university research funding program in Canada. For her large first-year history course,&nbsp;she pre-recorded her weekly lecture in four or five short parts interspersed with activities, such as watching a video or exploring a website. She has published on the development of critical thinking skills in large history courses and on the gaps that separate high school preparation from university expectations. Her latest project investigates the effectiveness of different kinds of feedback on students’ work.</p> <p>“Teaching history means guiding students through the process of discovering, understanding, and engaging with the human past,”&nbsp;Cowan said. “The study of primary sources is fundamental to this process in the formation of a history student, and I am delighted to have won an award recognizing the importance of this work.</p> <p>“Sustained, critical, and thoughtful engagement with primary sources is at the forefront of my teaching.
